Director of Information Technology
Edu-Tech Academic Solutions seeks a dynamic and forward-thinking Director of Information Technology to lead the technology operations of one of our partner schools in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, which provides instruction for students who learn differently.
The IT Director will develop and implement a strategic vision for technology across all academic and operational functions. This individual will manage IT systems and ensure a secure, high-performing infrastructure. This role requires engaging with administrators, staff, educators, and students to foster responsible and creative use of technology.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and organizational skills, strategic thinking abilities, and a passion for K-12 educational technology. Prior experience working within independent school environments with inclusive values and knowledge of K-12 technology trends will set candidates apart.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Leadership & Strategy:
- Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to align technology goals with the school’s mission.
- Develop and implement technology policies, guidelines, and procedures to support academic and operational functions.
- Plan, evaluate and implement new technologies, systems, and processes to support the school’s evolving needs.
- Keep current with technology trends and identify opportunities for innovation.
Infrastructure & Systems Management
- Manage and maintain IT systems, including networks, cloud services, telecommunications, and databases.
- Oversee vendor relationships and ensure service level agreements (SLAs) meet operational needs.
- Monitor the IT infrastructure and serve as a key responder to network issues and outages.
- Implement and maintain a comprehensive asset management system for tracking hardware and software resources.
Vendor & Budget Management
- Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with SLAs.
- Develop and manage the IT budget in collaboration with the Director of Finance, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Oversee technology procurement and asset management, including hardware and software life cycles.
Cybersecurity and Data Protection
- Implement and monitor cybersecurity practices to protect systems and data.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy laws and school policies (e.g., COPPA).
- Develop disaster recovery and continuity plans and maintain secure backups.
Operations & Technical Support
- Oversee the deployment, maintenance, and upgrade of Apple/Mac hardware and Meraki network hardware/software.
- Ensure consistent support for daily IT operations, including troubleshooting as needed on a wide variety of technical support issues.
- Provide technical guidance and insight to students, faculty, and staff on the effective use of Apple/Mac hardware, software, and web-based solutions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or a related field (or 8-10 years of equivalent full-time academic technology experience.)
- Experience in a senior or director-level IT role within an independent K-12 school, or other academic environment.
- Expertise in Google Admin Console, Google Workspace for Education, and technology infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of networks, cloud services, database management, and telecommunications.
- Excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of technology management experience in a senior or director-level IT role, and/or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Technical certifications that are relevant and current.
- Experience with PowerSchool SIS, JAMF Mobile Device Management (MDM), and other educational technology platforms.
- Collaborative leadership style with a strong ability to build relationships across the school community.
- Vendor negotiation and contract management experience.
- Positive, solution-oriented mindset with a sense of humor.
- Ability to quickly adapt to evolving needs and technologies.
Physical Requirements
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Ability to occasionally lift objects up to 30 lbs.
