Evening Nurse

New Hope, PA

Solebury School seeks a licensed professional or registered nurse to join our team in the Health Center as a full-time staff member for the evening shift hours. A typical work week would be Sunday-Thursday approximately 3-10:30 p.m., with the occasional weekend support. The SHC is maintained 24/7 by several nurses, consisting of the Director of Health, an evening nurse, and a day nurse, with weekend responsibilities rotating. Each nurse is solely responsible for the health of approximately 255 students in grades 9-12 while serving their respective duty.  Occasionally, the nurse may provide medical guidance to faculty and staff when requested.


Essential Functions 

The nurse is responsible for identifying and treating health disorders among students and providing instruction in the maintenance of good health and disease prevention.  They will evaluate the physical conditions of students and refer students to appropriate resources as needed.  Decisions made by the nurse require discretionary judgment and analysis.  The nurse must enjoy working with teenage students from an array of backgrounds and cultures. Additionally, the nurse must:

  • Triage and treat students in the Health Center
  • Maintain and document care in student’s electronic health record
  • Be available to students, parents, faculty, and staff to answer questions and guide them in any medical issues that arise
  • Administer and document prescribed and OTC medications as ordered
  • Report all medical emergencies to the Director of Health Services, Director of Safety and Security, and the Head of School
  • Assist in scheduling and transportation of students to and from medical appointments as needed
  • Assist in all other functions of running a school nurse’s office as deemed necessary by the Director of Health Services


Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing, new and recent graduates considered, with experience in pediatrics and/or public health nursing preferred
  • Current Pennsylvania nursing license to practice as an LPN or RN
  • Working knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies
  • Considerable knowledge of child growth and development
  • Current CPR certification
  • Experience with electronic health records, and proficiency in basic word processing, spreadsheet, internet and email applications
  • Comfortable with high degree of autonomy, and the ability to work as a member of a two/three nurse team all working separate shifts
  • Flexibility in schedule
