We are seeking an Upper School Mathematics educator with depth and breadth of content expertise to team with our Mathematics Department and support the academic and developmental work of our Upper School students through a Grade Level Academy Team. Applicants should have experience with student-centered educational practices, a broad array of assessment strategies, and be comfortable teaching learners at all levels across multiple disciplines in Math (Algebra 1 through Calculus). Applicants are expected to be proficient with various forms of communication and instructional technology. Applicants will also be expected to be involved with co-curricular activities and/or mentoring students. In addition, we are seeking applicants with experience in service-oriented, project-based learning. A teacher in this role would be expected to design and implement multidimensional, collaborative, and differentiated learning experiences, while bringing an empathetic mindset to the learning process.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in a Quantitative discipline (required)
2. Master’s Degree in Math or Education (preferred)
3. Certification in Secondary Math (preferred) with the ability to teach Algebra - Calculus
4. 3+ Years of teaching experience (preferred)
5. Current (dated within a year) clearances (required)

Essential Duties:

1. Creates and implements highly innovative, well-prepared lesson plans for a balanced program of instruction, application, and class work activities within the Mathematics curriculum for all assigned classes
2. Communicates student progress and class objectives to parents regularly
3. Encouraged to participate in Student Life by moderating an extracurricular activity or coaching a sport
4. Keeps students actively engaged in learning by regularly utilizing student-centered learning methods
5. Designs, adapts, and delivers instruction to address each student’s diverse learning strengths and needs, and creates opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning in different ways
6. Understands and values the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential to curricular design.
7. Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards, acting as a role model
8. Builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation with students and colleagues
9. Utilizes student-centered learning as the primary learning methodology. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
10. emphasizing the application of mathematical procedures, as well as skills related to problem solving, critical thinking, and communication
11. helping students to deepen their understanding and to practice new skills by providing opportunities for them to actively engage with content
12. designing learning experiences that call for high levels of collaboration, discussion, and interaction amongst students
13. focusing on the individual through differentiation, scaffolding, and opportunity for choice
14. utilizing multiple assessment techniques to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teacher’s and learners’ decision making
