Full-Time, 12-Month, Salaried/Exempt Position
Wilmington Friends School seeks an experienced, compassionate, and collaborative Lower School Nurse to support the health and well-being of our students and school community. The School Nurse provides direct nursing care, responds to illness and injury, manages student health needs and records, and partners closely with families, faculty, staff, administrators, and health care providers.
Provide daily nursing care, including assessment and treatment of illness and injury, emergency response, and medication administration.
Develop and maintain individualized health plans and emergency protocols for students with specific medical needs.
Maintain accurate student health records, physical examinations, immunization documentation, medications, and nursing notes.
Communicate with families and school personnel regarding student health concerns and appropriate follow-up care.
Support the prevention, identification, and management of communicable illnesses.
Provide health education, counseling, and emergency medication training to students, families, faculty, and staff.
Collaborate with administrators, counselors, teachers, athletic staff, and the Business Office on student and employee health and safety needs.
Participate in school safety and wellness initiatives and assist in developing health-related policies and procedures.
Accompany students on field trips as needed, including occasional overnight trips.
Academic Year: Monday–Friday, 7:45 a.m.–3:15 p.m., including required in-service and professional development days, with occasional additional hours for meetings or student needs.
Summer: Approximately 5–10 hours per week, on-site and/or virtual, primarily to process health forms, maintain records, communicate with families, and support summer programs and preparations for the upcoming school year.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
Current Registered Nurse license recognized by the Delaware Board of Nursing preferred
Minimum of three years of clinical and/or school nursing experience
Current CPR certification
Successful criminal background screening and TB testing
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Commitment to working collaboratively with children, families, and colleagues
