Extended Day Teacher

The Meadowbrook School is an independent, coeducational day school located on a beautiful 16-acre campus in Abington, Pennsylvania, just north of Philadelphia. The school serves students in Preschool through Grade 6. Founded in 1919, Meadowbrook combines strong academics with a joyful, close-knit community where every child is known and valued.

Position Purpose: Reporting to the Director of Auxiliary Programs, the Extended Day Teacher plays a vital role in caring for students at the end of the school day and serves as a trusted, friendly presence for children in Preschool through Grade 6 until they are picked up by their families. This is a part-time, non-exempt position, Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM

General Responsibilities

• Provide safe, attentive supervision of students in classrooms, on the playground, and throughout campus
• Plan and lead developmentally appropriate activities for a mixed-age group of students from Preschool through Grade 6
• Maintain accurate daily attendance records and student sign-out logs
• Observe all school safety, health, and emergency procedures
• In cases of emergencies, inclement weather, or late pickups, communicate promptly with families and the Director of Auxiliary Programs
• Provide written notice to the Director of Auxiliary Programs of any recurring concerns regarding student behavior, health, or family communication
• Anticipate problems and undertake solutions without prompting
• Required to perform other related duties as assigned

Specific Responsibilities

• Lead a balanced afternoon of outdoor play, games, arts and crafts, STEM activities, and quiet reading
• Provide a structured homework period and assist elementary students as they complete assignments
• Serve afternoon snacks while following all student allergy and dietary plans
• Maintain a calm, orderly, and welcoming environment using positive, age-appropriate guidance
• Follow all school procedures for student sign-out, releasing students only to authorized adults
• Share brief, friendly updates with families at pickup
• Keep Extended Day spaces clean, organized, and ready for the next school day
  
  

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with children in a school, camp, childcare, or after-school setting; early childhood experience a plus
• Associate's or bachelor's degree in early childhood education, education, child development, or a related field preferred
• Availability Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, for the full school year
• Ability to pass required background checks, including PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI fingerprinting, and completion of Mandated Reporter Training, per Pennsylvania school employment requirements
• Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have completed college coursework in education, early childhood education, child development, or a related field, or hold a valid teaching certification
