HVAC Technician
Westtown School seeks an experienced, full-time HVAC Technician to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of the School’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, and related building systems. Working across a variety of campus facilities, the HVAC Technician helps ensure that buildings and equipment operate safely, reliably, and efficiently to support the School’s academic, residential, and operational needs.
This position requires a strong technical background, sound troubleshooting skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with members of the Facilities team. The HVAC Technician is designated as essential personnel and participates in an on-call weekend rotation to respond to emergencies and critical maintenance needs.

Essential Responsibilities
Operate, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, and related building systems to provide safe, comfortable, and functional environments throughout campus.
Perform preventive maintenance, including cleaning, testing, adjusting, repairing, and replacing system components and equipment such as boilers, heaters, and other mechanical systems.
Perform daily maintenance of the central boiler plant. Monitor system performance with continuous attention to efficiency and repair needs. Maintain equipment records for scheduling of maintenance, ordering of repair parts, and optimizing resource utilization.
Maintain accurate equipment and maintenance records to support preventive maintenance scheduling, inventory management, parts ordering, and effective use of resources.
Plan, lay out, install, assemble, and modify equipment, materials, fixtures, and system components in accordance with project requirements and applicable codes.
Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and calibrate electrical controls and devices, including communication and signaling systems.
Interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and equipment manuals to diagnose problems and complete repairs and installations.
Follow established safety procedures, applicable building and electrical codes, and regulatory requirements when performing maintenance and repair work.
Participate in the Facilities team’s Mechanic On-Call rotation, including weekend coverage and emergency response.
Facilities team members are considered essential personnel and, as such, are expected to be available during inclement weather and other school-closing situations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Refrigeration license
Three to five years of experience in HVAC, electrical, or a related skilled trade involving the maintenance, repair, and operation of building systems.
Working knowledge of electrical principles and the National Electrical Code, including their application to electrical distribution systems, equipment, devices, and power generation systems.
Experience with electrical testing and diagnostic equipment, including voltmeters, ammeters, voltage testers, phase and rotation testers, and multimeters.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems, interpret technical instructions, and read and understand blueprints, structural drawings, and schematics.
Ability to apply electrical formulas, measurements, and conversion tables to practical maintenance and repair tasks.
Familiarity with applicable safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and building and electrical codes.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and work independently with limited supervision.
Effective communication skills and the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in time-sensitive or stressful situations.
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate School vehicles.
Physical Requirements
Lift, carry, or otherwise move up to 50 lbs. regularly. Lift, carry, or otherwise move up to 200 lbs occasionally with assistance.
Follow proper moving and lifting procedures.
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear, taste and smell, use fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift for long periods of time.
May be required to climb ladders.
Must be able to work in steam tunnels and pits in accordance with prescribed safety standards and work practices.
