Norwood-Fontbonne Academy (NFA), an independent Catholic school sponsored by the Sisters of Saint Joseph, is seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and dependable Long-Term Substitute Assistant Teacher for our Pre-Primary classroom. This temporary, full-time position will cover a maternity leave anticipated to begin in February 2027 and continue through June 2027.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with young children, values early childhood development, and is passionate about creating a positive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment. The Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to support students' academic, social, emotional, and developmental growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Teacher with daily classroom instruction, activities, and routines.
- Support the implementation of developmentally appropriate, engaging, and hands-on learning experiences.
- Provide individualized attention and support to students as needed.
- Help foster a warm, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, outdoor play, lunch, and other daily routines.
- Support students in developing independence, social skills, and positive relationships with peers.
- Assist with classroom preparation, organization, and maintenance of materials.
- Communicate and collaborate professionally with the Lead Teacher and other members of the school community.
- Follow school policies and procedures regarding student safety, supervision, and well-being.
Qualifications
- Experience working with preschool or early childhood students is preferred.
- A genuine love of working with young children and an understanding of their developmental needs.
- Patient, nurturing, flexible, and enthusiastic approach to teaching and learning.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a classroom team.
- Dependable, professional, and committed to student safety and well-being.
- Required clearances and background checks in accordance with Pennsylvania law.
