Essential Functions
- Plans and delivers age-appropriate music lessons aligned with curriculum standards.
- Teaches music theory, vocal techniques and rhythm.
- Lead group singing, movement activities and rhythm exercises.
- Organize and direct elementary school music performances such as concerts and musical programs.
- Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and creativity
- Prepares, administers, and grades tests and assignments in order to evaluate students’ progress.
- Communicates with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress
- Collaborates with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of the elementary music school program.
- Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
Qualifications
- Teaching Certification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music (Music Education strongly preferred)
- Strong Musical Ability (voice, piano)
- Passion for working with young children and fostering their artistic development
- Three years’ experience at an appropriate grade or age level
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with students, parents and colleagues
- Demonstrated organizational skills
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Works in a fast paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
- Works primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment
