St. Peter’s School is an independent, coeducational, non-sectarian Preschool through Eighth Grade school, educating approximately 170 students in the center of historic Philadelphia for over 180 years. We are seeking a dynamic full-time classroom teacher for our Fourth Grade who has experience planning an integrated curriculum, is committed to academic excellence, DEIB, and engaging learners to be committed citizens of their communities. This role is suited for a teacher who understands the social and emotional growth and development of young children, and has a creative, student-centered approach to learning. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, and the motivation to work collaboratively as a team with current teachers to build a sense of community in and outside of the classroom.
Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrates strong classroom management skills
Ensures that multicultural themes and diverse perspectives are incorporated throughout the curriculum
Partners with families to nurture the child’s social and emotional growth
Is responsible for ongoing assessment and communication with families and the Education Program Director, Director of Teaching and Learning, Learning Support, and fellow teachers
Works collaboratively and respectfully with all members of the faculty and administration
Embraces a project-based learning curriculum and implements an integrated curriculum across content areas
Establishes positive and productive relationships with students based on mutual respect and goodwill
Uses a variety of teaching techniques suitable to the developmental age and needs of the students and subject matter being taught
Applies an integrated theme-based Humanities model for social studies, language arts, and writing
Implements differentiated instruction when appropriate and encourages student-led learning
Uses a variety of technology formats to collaborate, publish, and engage with peers, families, and colleagues
Attends faculty meetings, school events, pursues professional development opportunities, and contributes to committees on campus
Is willing to and capable of teaching online when needed
Assists with additional duties as needed or assigned, including recess, dismissal, and lunch
Meets all expectations regarding job responsibilities in a professional and timely manner
Models ethical and professional behavior

We are seeking a dynamic full-time science educator who has experience planning a hands-on, project based curriculum, is committed to academic excellence, DEIB, and engaging learners to be committed citizens of their communities. Designing, planning and implementing an integrated science curriculum, commitment to challenging students of all levels academically, and understanding the social and emotional growth and development of school aged children are paramount in this role. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, and the motivation to work collaboratively with current teachers to build a sense of community in and outside of the classroom.
Beginning in Early Childhood and extending through Fifth Grade, this role establishes a foundation for scientific exploration, inquiry based approach to problem solving, and STEM awareness. SPS is also a United Nations Global School, establishing a link with the UNESCO program and utilizing the Seventeen UN’s Sustainable Development Goals as a part of our curriculum. Working with other science instructors, the Education Program Director, and classroom teachers, this person will engage students in STEM experiences across all grade levels, create interdisciplinary projects, share resources and develop unique and distinctive opportunities for St. Peter’s students to find a love of science and gain necessary skills to thrive in science while in secondary school and beyond. Bringing STEM content into the classrooms, developing partnerships across the city, integrating our existing project based curriculum, and showcasing the creative ability of all our students will also be important.

A degree in a Science related field or Elementary Education is required. While a Master’s degree is not required, advanced coursework or training is preferred, as well as previous teaching experience in public or independent schools.
