Merion Mercy Academy, an independent Catholic college preparatory school for girls in grades 9-12 outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, seeks a full time School Nurse beginning August 2026. Hours during the academic year are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The School Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the physical and emotional well-being of students in accordance with the school's mission, its Mercy values, and the teachings of the Catholic Church. Providing professional nursing care, health education, emergency response, and preventive health services, the nurse collaborates with school administrators, teachers, parents, and healthcare providers to address the unique health needs of adolescent girls.
As a licensed registered nurse, the School Nurse handles acute medical issues, assists with health screenings, monitors records, administers medications, and promotes wellness in accordance with Merion Mercy Academy’s (MMA) commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment.
Reporting directly to the President, the school nurse’s duties include but are not limited to:
Provide first aid and emergency medical care to students.
Assess, treat, and monitor students with illness or injury during the school day.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with school policies and medical orders.
Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
Implement individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, and severe allergies.
Collaborate and assist with a Certified School Nurse (CSN) of Lower Merion School District to obtain state mandated health records. The nurse informs and coordinates care of students’ health issues at MMA with the CSN as needed.
Coordinate with local doctor for annual renewal of standing orders.
Monitor and manage communicable diseases in accordance with local public health guidelines.
Offer counseling and support regarding adolescent health concerns while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
Identify students with emotional or mental health concerns and coordinate referrals to counselors or healthcare professionals.
Ensure compliance with immunization requirements and health regulations.
Maintain inventory and supplies for the school health office.
Participate in emergency preparedness planning and respond during school emergencies.
Collaborate with parents, teachers, counselors, and healthcare providers to support student health and academic success.
Prepare health reports and documentation required by school administration and regulatory authorities.
Participate in school committees, health promotion programs, and staff wellness initiatives.
Collaborate as a member of the Safety Committee.
Act as a resource for faculty, counseling department, staff, parents/caregivers and students on health related issues providing current information as they relate to health and well being of the students.
Document student health center visits and update information in Magnus Health information system.
Prepares emergency travel bags for faculty/staff accompanying students on field trips. Review health care concerns with faculty/staff prior to trips.
Check and refresh contents of school emergency kit used during fire drills and first aid kits located around the school building.
Strong clinical assessment and emergency response skills.
Knowledge of adolescent health and developmental needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional ethics.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Proficiency in electronic health records (Magnus Health).
Compassionate, approachable, and culturally sensitive in working with students and families.
Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Current certification in CPR, First Aid, and Basic Life Support (BLS).
Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical or school nursing experience preferred.
Experience working with adolescent girls is highly desirable.
Familiarity with Magnus Health student health record management software is a plus.
